Beginner's Classes

Learning French begins with mastering everyday essentials. This beginner-friendly programme introduces practical topics such as greetings, ordering food, asking for directions, and shopping. The focus is on building vocabulary and confidence through structured yet enjoyable lessons. Each session encourages interaction and cultural understanding, helping learners apply language skills to real-life situations. With French with Nicole Harris, classes are small, friendly, and designed to help complete beginners communicate naturally and confidently in French.

Level 1 and 2 Classes

Level 1 is for students who have completed the Beginner's Class and helps learners progress beyond the basics and start expressing themselves more fluently. Lessons cover travel arrangements, food and drink, likes and dislikes, where you live and what the weather is like, personal interests, and describing the past / future.

Level 2 is for students who have done the Level 1 class. If you have an equivalent GCSE level grade C, you will easily cope with this level. The first 6 weeks are spent revising last year’s programme. The new Breakthrough French 2 book will be revising grammar points which have been covered in the second year. Topics include travelling abroad, cars, accidents and problems, describing travels, skiing accidents, thank you letters and emails, reminiscing how life was, places of interest, telling jokes, hobbies and shopping.

With French with Nicole Harris, lessons remain interactive and engaging, encouraging learners to discuss personal topics and French culture while improving grammar and pronunciation. By the end of this stage, students will feel confident managing conversations and understanding most everyday situations in French.

Level 3 and 4 Classes

With French with Nicole Harris, lessons combine language precision with cultural immersion, supported by online French classes and individual French tuition. Each class encourages confident expression, analytical thinking, and a deeper appreciation of the French language.

Levels 3 and 4 are for students who have done the Level 2 class. If you have an equivalent GCSE level grade A or B, you will easily cope with this level. We will start reading stories from Easy readers. The first 6 weeks will be revising the previous year’s programme. We will be covering more tenses and revision. Students will be conversing with more ease. We will be working from simple texts concerning culture, history, etiquette, and French life.

At this level, learners refine their skills through literature, discussion, and in-depth cultural study. Using texts such as Mourir sur Seine by Michel Bussi and La Vie Secrète des Ecrivains by Guillaume Musso, classes focus on advanced comprehension, writing, and fluent speaking.

I can also teach Business French in your company online as part of your company training at competitive prices.

French Discussion Classes

Our online French discussion classes offer learners a dynamic space to explore literature with depth and authenticity. These sessions often feature Q&A opportunities with well-known French authors, giving students direct insight into the writer’s intentions and creative process. Participants are encouraged to fully engage with the book beforehand so they can understand what the author aims to convey and contribute meaningfully to the discussion. This interactive format not only strengthens language skills but also deepens appreciation for contemporary and 21st centaury French literature.

Conversation Classes

In this class, you will no longer use a book and be working from texts concerning French culture. This year, we will be covering all aspects of Paris, history, geography, food, places to visit and much more. This level would suit someone with O’ Level, AS level or a good level of French. You will be expected to keep up to date with news and current affairs. More topics will also be covered. The class is conducted in French. We will still cover more challenging grammar points, interpret conversations, and increase vocabulary. We are studying “La vie secrete des ecrivains” by Musso on Thursday daytime and Mourir sur Seine by Michel Bussi on Wednesday evenings. You would be expected to read about 10 pages a week. We can watch French films and I am organising regular French quiz nights.

Learning French with Nicole over the past two years has been a

pleasure. She is an empathetic and knowledgeable tutor who has ensured that a

solid foundation of French vocab, grammar and pronunciation has been

established. Over a relatively short period of time I have seen dramatic

improvement and can now understand and converse at a reasonable level. Also, it has been fun learning more about the French culture too. I'm very happy to

recommend and continue with Nicole.
